Focal point of the highly acclaimed University of Wisconsin, where thousands of students have earned their degrees and many have gone on to become leaders in their fields.
The University was established in 1848 and now has 40,000 students from every country in the world. It is the third largest producer of doctorates in the nation and the third largest recipient of research and development funds. It is the home of the world-famous Badgers, back-to-back winners of the Rose Bowl and Alma Mater of the 1999 Heismann Trophy winner. Home to the famous UW marching band well known for the "Fifth Quarter": a post-game performance of fight songs, polka tunes, and varsity songs.
Observatory Drive goes through the upper part of the campus and overlooks Lake Mendota. A favorite gathering place for students and locals is the Memorial Union overlooking the lake. Another lovely part of the University is the garden at the Allen Centennial House located off Observatory Drive. Strolling and smell the roses.
UW-Madison Arboretum is home to 1266 acres of prairies, forests, savannas, and wetlands with more than 20 miles of nature trails. A collection of the natural ecosystems that provide research data for the University. It is a wonderful area for families to learn about nature through guided tours or to bike and hike.
